Lowe Families,
As you are beginning to plan your summer months, don't forget to plan for summer reading. Summer reading can be a fun family activity from planning a backyard camping reading night to playing a book on cd in your car driving around town. Statics show, students who do not read over the summer fall into the "summer slide". Experts agree that children who read during the summer gain reading skills, while those who do not often slide backward. According to the authors of a report from the National Summer Learning Association: "A conservative estimate of lost instructional time is approximately two months or roughly 22 percent of the school year". We want all Lowe students to retain all the wonderful knowledge they gained this school year and be ready to apply it to the rigirous academic challenges of next school year. You can help by being a reading role model in your child's life and help them to be critical thinkers as they read.
