During the Summer of 2017 we are challenging Lowe students to break the record for reading the most minutes of all participating schools in the world!!! The challenge runs from May 8th to September 8th 2017. Just click on the Summer Reading Challenge button to the left to record your minutes. Letters were sent home about this challenge at the beginning of May. The student username and password were pasted on the letter. Please email me if you lost your username or password information. If you will be joining the Lowe family this coming fall, you can join the challenge. Please email [email protected]. June 1st - August 12th
K-5th grade students who read at least 10 books will receive an official Super-Reader backpack, along with passes to local attractions like the Kentucky Science Center, Squire Boone Caverns, a Bats baseball game, the Frazier History Museum, and more LFPL Summer Reading program is offering both paper form and a paperless program this year. Pick up your paper journal at any branch library. You may register for the paperless form on the LFPL website (see below). After registering students may customize their page! Students can earn digital badges after signing up for the program. Students also have the opportunity to write book reviews and get an email each week for a book recommendation from the library! After reading all 10 books go to any local branch to pick up your prizes. Click the link below to register: HELP LOWE EARN POINTS IN THE JCPS/LFPL LOCAL SCHOOL BOOK WARS!
Lowe will compete against Bowen, Hite, Middletown, Norton Commons, Stopher and St. Patrick's this year! Since the LFPL summer reading theme is "Return of the Super Readers", they're going to do a city theme with lights for the higher we climb in the challenge. What a great idea! The champion this year will earn the Book War trophy to keep until next year, when the battle begins again! Remember the 10 books you read for the LFPL Summer Reading log may also be written on the Book War form. It is NOT cheating. You may turn in your form at any branch library, but we prefer Middletown, Lowe's home branch. Make sure you tell the public librarian you are a LOWE student when you turn in your Book War form so our school can earn points in the LFPL/JCPS School Book Wars this summer! Every book read by a Lowe student counts as a percentage point for our school so read lots, fill in and return as many book war forms as you can between June 1 through August 12th.
Read 15 minutes a day. (Grown-ups may read aloud to kids who are still learning.) and record it on the reading log, add up your minutes and have your parent or guardian initial each week. Once you’ve reached 300 or more minutes, bring your log to your local HPB to claim your Bookworm Bucks.
Reading over summer vacation is essential to beating the summer slide, but it’s not always easy to get children excited about it when school is over, stop by the Book It website beginning May 1, 2017 for access to exciting reading activities and resources that are perfect for keeping your child’s love of reading burning all summer. On this site you can also link to RIF to download over 50 free eBooks to read this summer.
