Greetings Zookeepers in Training!
There is so much to learn about animals. During library class you will be researching a zoo animal to learn about its' needs. A zookeeper knows about the animal's needs so they can care for it. During your zoo visit you will be observing animal behaviors. This is the first thing you must do to learn about your animal, observe.
Observe means to look closely at something to understand it.
A behavior is broadly defined as the way an animal acts. Swimming is an example of behavior.
Animals behave in certain ways for four basic reasons:
Below are facts sheets for the animals you may see at the Louisville Zoo. Choose an animal you would like to learn more about. Check off what animal behaviors you see while observing the animals for 5 minutes.
Teacher Reminder:

Junior Zookeeper Field Notes:
The kindergarten students have completed researching their zoo animal and are now "official" junior zookeepers. To synthesize what they learned, each junior zookeeper research group found a picture of their animal, wrote fascinating facts about the animal and placed a yellow dot on the zoo map below to help you to locate their animal at the zoo. Please click on the yellow dots below to learn all the fascinating facts the students would like to share about their animal. The junior zookeepers also found two videos about two of the animals. You can view them by clicking the red star buttons.
