Background
You will work in a group to learn about a region of the United States by completing the United States Regions Research guide provided to you during library class. You will use library resources, databases, internet sites, etc. to answer the questions on the guide. After you complete your research you will create a PowerPoint, tri-fold or any other medium you choose to synthesize what you learned about your region to teach 4th grade students in your class about it.
As a culminating project, you will create a sales pitch demonstrating reasons to visit your geographic region. You will present your sales pitch to a a group of 3rd grade students to convince them to choose your region for their next family vacation. You will use knowledge you have gained about your geographic region in the United States from your research above (landforms, points of interest, climate, and interesting facts) to create your commercial. The vacation can occur at any point during the year, therefore a region with snow may want to promote winter sports and amount of snowfall. You may also want to do additional research to find the significant and unique attractions in your region to make a stronger commercial.
- Step 1: First learn about your region by completing the research guide.
- Step 2: Your group will use the information you have learned about your region to create a PowerPoint, trio-fold (or other medium) about your region. You will present your final project to your class so other students can learn about your region.
- Step 3: Your group will then create a commercial to convince third grade students to visit your region on their next family vacation. You may want to do additional research on each state in your region to help you gain additional knowledge of your region to help you “sell” your region to the third grade students. As a group you will use the Persuasive Commercial guide provided to you during library class to:
- Decide the top four reasons to visit the region.
- Create a slogan for the region.
- Craft a leading question to pique the viewer’s interest.
- Write a persuasive paragraph (you will add the parts of the speech to the presentation): The purpose of this speech is to entice others to visit your state.
- To create the commercial each group will create:
- A Powerpoint incorporating the above information.
- An Animoto movie highlighting the region’s assets and reasons to visit. You will embedded the Animoto into the last slide of PowerPoint presentation to create one commercial.
- Decide the top four reasons to visit the region.
